Kick-starting a dream: First Nations kids take a peek at elite-level sport
Cole Currie is 11 years old, with lacrosse dreams running through his head in a non-stop loop. Someday, the kid from the Mistawasis First Nation wants to play in the National Lacrosse League. “I think about lacrosse a lot. Vital Signs report shows diversity in languages spoken in Saskatoon homes
The languages spoken in Saskatoon homes are more diverse according to the city’s recently released Vital Signs report. Using 2011 Statistics Canada data — the most reliable and recent data available — the Saskatoon Community Foundation (SCF) found that speaking languages other than English at home is on the rise in the city, a trend SCF manager of grants and communications Don Ewles attributes to Saskatoon’s growing immigrant community. Terminally-ill New Brunswick teen behind #BeccaToldMeTo discovers new tumour
RIVERVIEW, N.B. — A New Brunswick teenager with terminal cancer whose hashtag campaign has inspired acts of kindness across the globe has been diagnosed with a new tumour. From one perspective, it may strain credulity to suggest that the Saskatchewan Roughriders should have any concerns about quarterbacking. A team that leads the CFL in touchdown passes, as the Roughriders did during the 2017 regular season, should seemingly be set at football’s most crucial position.
