Saskatchewan Roughrider star receiver Duron Carter’s first appearance on a marijuana possession charge laid last month lasted just a few minutes, and ended with an adjournment until April 5.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native was not present in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday. His lawyer, Regina-based Louis Mercier, appeared by telephone and requested the adjournment.

Carter, 26, was arrested at the Saskatoon airport just before midnight on Feb. 1. Canada Border Services Agency officials called police after stopping a traveller to search his bags and finding marijuana.

“I know I know. Life,” the receiver tweeted shortly after the arrest, along with a “facepalm” emoji. A second now-deleted tweet asked the Saskatoon Police Service to “Chill please” and asked for “a little professionalism.”

Carter led the team in receiving yards during the 2017 campaign on his way to being named a West Division and CFL all-star and the Roughriders’ most outstanding player. His contract was extended by a year at the end of January.

The receiver was previously arrested for marijuana possession in Winnipeg late last year.
